ANEW decided to reach out to beneficiaries, who have the aptitude and dream to take control of their lives by staying behind the wheels, by introducing a ‘non-traditional’ course in driving in the year 2003. The course is open to students who have at least a middle school education and who are willing to take-up employment as drivers. To begin with, ANEW started by training women in auto-driving and later moved on to car-driving in the year 2006. ANEW first helps enrol the interested candidate in an accredited driving school and advances the money needed to get the driving licence. Subsequently, ANEW’s car and trainer gives them the on-the-road experience & practice needed to improve their confidence in driving. ANEW also gets them further hands on training at various places, like Savera Hotel, Chennai, to handle a variety of vehicles. All trainees get Soft Skills and Basic English training and are also certified by AASI. On completion of the training, the candidates find placements as chauffeurs, valets, cab drivers etc.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has supported ANEW in its endeavour to empower women by generously donating a Hyundai i10 for training purposes.
Maruti Foundation

Maruti Foundation supports ANEW by facilitating getting a learner’s licence, providing the initial training and finally helping ANEW’s trainees get the official driving licence.

Automobile Association of Southern India (AASI)

After completion of training, ANEW’s trainees are assessed and certified on defensive driving, by AASI, Automobile Association of Southern India

Savera Group of Hotels

The Savera Group has been a consistent supporter of ANEW’s car driving program by providing internship opportunities for a period of 2 months to the trainees at their valet parking facility. This opportunity helps the trainees learn to handle different makes of cars with confidence.

Based on their capabilities, the drivers find placement as personal drivers, school van drivers, valets, auto drivers, commercial drivers (OLA cabs, Penn cabs) etc. There is a high demand for women drivers these days and ANEW drivers finds immediate placements in hotels, educational institutions, and individual homes as drivers and valets and also as driving instructors at driving schools. Many of our former students take up home tutoring for first time learners, who have their own private vehicles, to supplement their income.
