2010 – Vision Care Technician Course introduced; Credibility Alliance Accreditation

A new initiative –Vision Care Technician training course, in association with Sight Care Foundation was commenced this year for high school completed students. Girls could now get employment in private eye clinics, right near their area of residence.

A large activity room was put up on the 2nd floor for use during certification & for other extracurricular activities. The construction was supported and inaugurated by Mr. Basil Sellers.

The Spoken English program was enhanced with audio-visual aids to improve the communication skills of students and to give them the confidence to speak the language.Soft Skills & Work Ethics was also introduced into the curriculum.

ANEW reached out to eligible candidates through corporation and government aided schools & colleges in and around Chennai. This enabled final year school &college students to enrol at ANEW and get placed immediately on completion of their education.

ANEW got accredited by Credibility Alliance. Credibility Alliance is a national consortium of non-profit organizations set up in 2004 to establish credibility norms for the voluntary sector in India. This accreditation is an added recognition to the quality of work and the ethical financial processes followed at ANEW.

This year ANEW also witnessed one of its proudest moments when the President of ANEW, Dr.Annalakshmi, was awarded the prestigious “Woman of the Year” award by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)- FICCI Ladies Organization chapter, thereby acknowledging ANEW’s valuable contributions to society.
