ABOUT ANEW

ANEW Today

ANEW has been opening up new avenues for underprivileged women to acquire skills, contribute to the welfare of their families and society, and upgrade their own lives, since 1997.  Focusing on less-traveled paths like nursing, computer skills, driving and vision care, ANEW does not stop with imparting training, it goes the extra mile to see that the women have best-fit placements. As much as 80% of the women trained so far are placed in the formal sector. The training is offered free of charge to women between the ages of 18 and 35yrs living in Chennai and its suburbs. Training is conducted by professional faculty and volunteers.

The training programs are developed in consultation with corporate houses, institutes and other NGOs, and the courses are co-certified by respected names in the various fields. Life-skills form an integral part of the course content, as the emphasis is on holistic development and employability. Based in Anna Nagar, Chennai, ANEW is run by a 10-member all women committee, motivated purely by a deep rooted commitment to the cause. All committee members are volunteers who take no remuneration, and the NGO is run wholly on donations. ANEW has set itself the goal of training around 1000 women per year.

ANEW also MENTORS other NGOs on a similar mission in keeping with its philosophy of serving the socially disadvantaged and marginalized communities.

ANEW is run by a group of ladies who are passionate about empowering economically and socially underprivileged girls and women and giving them hope for a better future. Change, modify or course correct – ANEW does whatever it takes to stay relevant in this fast-changing world.

Our Story

Ponmani had no source of income, no skills. With an incomplete school education, a young son and a husband who drank his earnings away, she approached ANEW… Today, her son is an engineer working in a leading MNC, thanks to her earnings as a Home Nurse. Salomi, works as a personal secretary to a fashion designer and travels and organises fashion shows. A first generation school-goer, she had little career guidance. The turning point came when she enrolled for ANEW’s Computer Course. There are 1000s more women like Ponmani and Salomi, who had no skills and no hope for a future, but can now find gainful employment and chart career paths because of skills they have acquired at ANEW.
